SIGHTS, NATURAL WONDERS & ATTRACTIONS

Krka National Park is one of Croatia's most famous natural attractions. Beautiful and crystal clear river Krka in its initial course sculpts narrow, high and long canyon while approaching the mouth creates fabulous waterfalls, cascades, lakes and backwaters.

During the tour, we will move along the paths around the Skradinski Buk waterfall, the largest on the River Krka. At 800m of lenght it forms more than 17 stunts, after which the water overcomes the difference in height of 45.7m. The width of the waterfall is 200m to 400m, and on its banks, legs and stretchers there is a walking route and observation decks. Passing wooden platforms over the mirror of green and blue water we can admire the travertine barriers- frequent creations on the surface of the watercourses of the Dynarski karst. It is in these places that the calm water pane turns into energetic cascades, throwing up millions of tiny droplets forming a characteristic mist. In sunny weather, it can shimmer with all the colours of the rainbow.

During the walk, it is worth looking around. In addition to squalius illyricus and trout swimming under our feet, we may encounter frogs, snakes or some interesting birds.

Being in such a unique place we will probably envy the former inhabitants of these fabulous areas. To see how much influence the river and waterfall had on the local life it is worth visiting the old stone-built milling farm with forge and weaving workshop. We will be able to see not only the way flour or fabricks were made but also regional traditional cloths.

It is worth looking at the remains of the first hydroelectric power plant in Europe (and the second in the world), opened in 1895, thanks to which nearby Šibenik was supplied with electricity long before other world metropolises.

Finally, we take a short cruise on the river, in the canyon, to the charming town of Skradin. This is the last but equally delightful point of the program.

Skradin is located about fifteen kilometers from Sibenik and is one of the oldest Croatian cities. It was first mentioned under its present name in the 10th century. This area was inhabited even in the Illyrian times, but the ancient city of Scardona owes its name to the Romans because it was their administrative, traffic and commercial center in the province of Dalmatia. The position of Skradin at the entrance to the Krka National Park makes it one of the most important nautical destinations in the Adriatic and one of the most important tourist destinations in Croatia.
